JAIPUR – Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra has ruffled many a feather with his recent controversial statement regarding the population control law. He stated that couples with two or more children will not be eligible for any government benefits.

Kharra made the remarks during a one-day tour of Pali where he addressed a meeting at the District Council and later spoke to the press. “The population is increasing, and resources are decreasing, leading to various problems. Therefore, efforts are underway at the Government of India level to ensure that couples or families with more than two or three children do not receive any government facility. A law related to this will soon be seen in the country,” he said.

Kharra also discussed the Rajasthan government’s budget, emphasising its focus on state development. “This budget has been made keeping in mind the development of the state. Whatever announcements the government has made in the budget will be fulfilled at all costs,” he assured.

Highlighting the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) commitment, Kharra remarked, “BJP does not only make announcements but also takes a pledge to fulfill them at all costs. Before coming to power, the Sankalp Patra was issued by the party. According to that, instructions have been given to all the departments. After the formation of the double engine government, the people of the state should have faith in the government. Every promise made to the public will be fulfilled on time.”

He promised that the impact of budget announcements would start becoming evident by August 15. “The announcements made in the budget will be completed in a timely manner. According to the budget, instructions have also been given to make plans. This is the guarantee of the government that the effect of the budget announcements will start showing from August 15. All the work will be completed on time,” Kharra concluded.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Jaipur’s Hawa Mahal, Balmukund Acharya, voiced strong support for the population control law. He remarked, “Having four wives and 36 children is no longer acceptable. I have been consistently demanding for many years that there should be one law for the entire country. When we used to visit Kashmir, we were asked if we were from India, which was painful. Now, after the abrogation of Article 370, the same laws apply throughout the country, including Kashmir.”

Acharya added, “The increasing population is a major issue, and the demographic balance is being disrupted. There is a community that maintains four wives and 36 children. Even in the legislative assembly, there are people with 3-4 wives. One community follows the rule of one wife and at most two children, while the other is engaged in having four wives and 36 children. This is wrong. There should be a uniform law for everyone.”

The statements by Kharra and Acharya have sparked a heated discussion on population control and government benefits, highlighting differing views on how to address demographic challenges in India.
