Rajasthan: Man Strangled to Death for Refusing to Apply the Colour During Holi

JAIPUR – A 25-year-old man was assaulted and strangled to death by three miscreants after he prevented them from applying colors on him ahead of the Holi celebrations on Thursday in Rajasthan’s Dausa district.

On Wednesday, while celebrating the Holi, Ralwas village residents Ashok, Bablu and Kaluram went to a local library where the victim identified as Hansraj was studying and tried to apply colour on the him, and upon refusing they beat Hansraj to death.

According to the police, Hansraj was preparing for a competitive examination.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dinesh Agarwal told PTI that after Hansraj refused to be smeared with colours, he was allegedly kicked and thrashed with belts by the trio.

One of the accused strangled Hansraj to death, ASP Agarwal added. 

The family members of the deceased and villagers staged a protest with Hansraj’s body, and blocked the national highway in the area till 1 am on Thursday.

The protesters demanded compensation of ₹50 lakh to Hansraj’s family, a government job for one family member, and the immediate arrest of the accused trio. The body was finally removed from the highway after police assurance.

The incident was caught on CCTV installed in the library and the video started doing rounds on social media. In the video, it could be seen that Hansraj went outside the library as the three accused came. However, in a few seconds an altercation broke out between them and they entered the library. One of the accused could be seen strangulating Hansraj with a belt. Soon the 25-year-old man collapsed.

In another development, a man allegedly attacked and injured a 17-year-old boy following a dispute during Holi celebrations at a housing complex in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Friday.

Disputes, clashes and deaths are often reported during the celebration of the Holi festival when miscreants and revellers misuse the celebration to settle score or create mischiefs. They use the occasion to harass the common people or the travellers. In view of these illegal activities, the police remain high alert and the forces are deployed in the sensitive areas.

In Rajasthan too, the police administration has implemented special surveillance and tight security in sensitive areas. Additional police force has been deployed in various districts including Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer, Sikar, Pali and Jhunjhunu district. 

In Jaipur, Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams have been kept in reserve in the most sensitive areas of the city. 11 additional DCPs, 48 ​​ACPs, 80 CIs, 1500 head constables and constables and 350 women police personnel have been deployed on duty for security. According to Additional Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Dr. Rameshwar Singh, strict arrangements have been made to maintain peace during the festivals.
