JAIPUR— The Congress party on Tuesday won the elections held to elect chairpersons of the 49 urban local bodies (Nagar Palika and Nagar Parishad) in Rajasthan. While the Congress won 35 posts of Chairperson, BJP won 13 and an Independent candidate won one post.
Among the 35 Congress chairpersons, there are seven Muslims – four of them are women. Nagma Bano (25) in Jhunjhunu district and Samrin (26) in Nagaur district are youngest among Muslim chairpersons. All seven Muslims have won the posts by defeating nearest BJP rivals.

The elections for the 2,105 wards of 49 urban local bodies were held on November 16, results of which were announced on November 19.
Of the 2,105 wards, Congress won 961 seats while BJP 737. Independents won in 386 wards and BSP in 16.
Out of 49 civic bodies, Congress got majority in 23 and BJP in 6. Independents were in majority in 20 others.
