Rahul, Enroute to Wayanad, Arrives in Coimbatore to Rousing Welcome

CHENNAI — Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi arrived in Coimbatore on Saturday to a rousing welcome and is all set to visit to his parliamentary constituency Wayanad on Saturday for the first time after getting reinstated as a Lok Sabha member.

Senior Tamil Nadu Congress leaders, Coimbatore district party members and workers were present in large numbers at the airport to receive Rahul Gandhi.

His visit to Wayanad will be the first after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a criminal defamation case over his remarks on the ‘Modi’ surname that he made in Karnataka.

Rahul Gandhi’s status as a parliamentarian was reinstated by the Lok Sabha speaker on Monday after the Supreme Court stay.

According to media reports. he has already left for Wayanadand from Coimbatore and will be there on Saturday and Sunday.

During his two-day visit to Tamil Nadu and Kerala, starting on Saturday Gandhi will also visit Udhagamandalam (Ooty).

In Kerala, Congress leader will participate in public meetings and a key handover ceremony of nine houses built under the Kaithangu Project in Kalpetta.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Working President VT Siddique said that Gandhi will attend a district Congress Committee meeting.
“There will be a very warm welcome ever held in the history of Wayanad for Rahul Gandhi,” Siddique added.
