RANCHI — The Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) raided a madrasa in Ranchi’s Chanho village on Thursday morning and detained Mufti Rahmatullah, the institution’s head.

Residents and the family of the detained madrasa head have raised serious questions over the raid on the seminary which primarily serves young girls.

Muhammad Ejaz, the brother of Mufti Rahmatullah, expressed his concerns about the operation. “The police arrived with multiple vehicles and first searched the madrasa before proceeding to our home,” Ejaz said. “They did not find anything, and we were not informed about the reasons for my brother’s detention. He is just a teacher at the madrasa, and we believe he is innocent.”

The raid, which lasted several hours, drew significant attention from the local community. Village residents have also raised questions about the transparency of the operation, as they were not provided with detailed information regarding the charges or the nature of the investigation.

Early reports indicate that a large contingent of police arrived in Chanho as part of a larger ATS operation across Jharkhand, where the squad has conducted searches at around 14 locations, including Hazaribagh and Lohardaga.

The recent spate of raids and arrests has caused considerable unease among local communities. While the ATS continues to investigate and gather information, the lack of detailed communication about the charges against those detained has led to apprehension and confusion among residents and the families of those affected.

The raids have not only stirred local sentiments but have also prompted questions about the operational transparency and procedural fairness of such high-profile investigations. As the situation develops, authorities are expected to provide further updates on the progress of the investigation and the legal proceedings against the detained individuals.
