NEW DELHI — In a heartwarming display of communal harmony, the construction of ‘Madina Masjid’ is progressing rapidly in Umarpura village in Punjab’s Rohira Tehsil, on the land donated by two Sikh brothers. The mosque, which has already seen the completion of its foundation, four walls, and a 6-foot-high boundary wall, is now undergoing soil levelling work in its interior. The initiative has been hailed as a shining example of humanity and unity in a region often marred by religious tensions.

The foundation stone for the mosque was laid at a grand ceremony on Sunday, 12th January 2025, in the presence of Punjab’s Shahi Imam, Maulana Usman Rahmani, former Sarpanch Jinder Singh Noni, his brother Avni Dhar Singh, and other local officials and residents. The event was marked by prayers and goodwill, with both Sikh and Muslim communities coming together to celebrate the occasion. Notably, a ceremony was also held at the village gurudwara to commemorate the laying of the mosque’s foundation stone, further underscoring the spirit of brotherhood.

Qari Furqan Ahmed, who is overseeing the construction, shared updates with the media. “The construction work of the mosque is going on rapidly. Some financial problems arose, but the benefactors assured to resolve them. In this regard, the construction work is progressing well. After the wall, soil is now being poured so that the ground continues to level out as the construction work advances,” he said.

He added, “There is a lot of enthusiasm among the local people. It can be gauged from the fact that such a large phase of construction was completed so quickly. It is hoped that soon the servants of God will restore this house of Allah with their prostrations.”

The donation of land by the Sikh brothers has been widely praised, with locals and nearby communities expressing their joy and gratitude. Qari Furqan Ahmed remarked, “Not only the local Muslims but also the Muslims of the nearby areas are happy with the construction of the mosque. The spirit of the Sikh brothers is also being discussed—they have done such a great good deed, and the holy house of Allah is being built on the valuable land donated by them.”

Despite occasional challenges, including temporary halts due to rain, the construction team remains optimistic. “Since it was raining at that time, the work was temporarily stopped. The construction work will be carried forward as soon as the weather improves,” Qari Furqan Ahmed assured.
