CHANDIGARH — Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh on Monday expressed concern over the death of a retired Army officer, Amanullah, who was thrashed in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

In a tweet, Capt. Amarinder Singh said: “Disturbing to learn of the death of retired Captain Amanullah in Amethi by unidentified assailants. Request concerned authorities to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure justice to the family.”

The 64-year-old retired Army captain was beaten to death by unidentified assailants in the Amethi district on Saturday.

The attackers thrashed Amanullah across the head due to which he died on the spot, his son said in a statement. Amanullah, and his wife were in their house when a group of people attacked them with sticks, his son informed the police, reports PTI.
