Puja Material Found Packed in Geeta Pages; Three in Indore Police Custody

FIR registered against three individuals after a buyer spots puja items wrapped in Bhagwad Geeta pages at Zakir Khan’s shop in Sanyogitaganj

INDORE – A controversy has emerged in Indore’s Sanyogitaganj area after some puja material were discovered wrapped in pages of the holy text, Bhagwat Geeta. The incident occurred on Tuesday and has prompted police action against three persons.

According to local authorities, a buyer visiting a puja supply shop in the Chhawni area noticed the material were packed in Geeta pages. “I was shocked to see the sacred pages being used in this manner,” said the buyer, who immediately lodged a written complaint at the police station.

Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation and took three individuals into custody. “We are conducting a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” said a police officer involved in the case.

The shop where the incident occurred belongs to Zakir Khan, who has been selling puja material in the Chhawni area for several years. During questioning, Zakir claimed he did not intend to hurt religious sentiments. “I had purchased the material from another supplier. I had no idea the wrapping paper included Geeta pages,” he told police.

Zakir also provided the names of the supplier and warehouse owner, prompting further action against them. Police have clarified that it is yet to be determined whether the use of Geeta pages was deliberate or accidental. “At this stage, we have registered a case against all three accused under provisions for hurting religious sentiments,” a police spokesperson added.

The investigation continues as authorities aim to ascertain the full details of how the sacred text was misused. Meanwhile, the accused remain in police custody.
