NEW DELHI – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for expunging his Parliament speech on the Adani Group with most parts of it not allowed on record. “The prime minister insults me and his words are not removed. But most of my speech was edited out and was not allowed to go on the record of Parliament,” Gandhi said.

A major part of Gandhi’s address during a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the motion of thanks on the President’s address was removed.

“At the same time, the PM directly insults me. He asks why my surname is not Nehru but Gandhi. So the PM of the country directly insults me and his words are not removed. That does not matter. The truth always comes out. And all you have to do is look at my face while I spoke and his face when he did,” Rahul Gandhi said.

He added, “Generally, and maybe Mr Modi does not understand this, but generally in India, our surname is the surname of our father.”

Speaking at a public gathering in Kerala’s Wayanad, Gandhi alleged that when he was talking about Adani in Parliament, PM Modi’s hands were shaking.

Recalling the speech he had made in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said, “A few days ago, I gave a speech in Parliament about the relationship between our Prime Minister and Gautam Adani. I spoke in the most polite and respectful tone. I did not use any bad language, did not abuse anybody. I just raised some facts. I pointed out how Mr Adani travelled with the prime minister to foreign countries and immediately after was rewarded by getting contracts in these countries.”

The Congress scion further said: “I showed how 30% of the airport traffic today is controlled by Mr Adani simply because he has a relationship with the prime minister. I spoke about how the rules were changed so that Mr Adani could get these airports. Earlier, people who did not have experience of running airports were not allowed to participate. The biggest, most strategic airport – the Mumbai airport – was taken over by Mr Adani after agencies threatened the people who had the airport.”

“Apparently, saying the names Adani and Ambani together is an insult to the PM. But you can see pictures of them together on the internet. You can see the PM flying in Mr Adani’s plane. You can see him relaxing and laughing with Mr Adani,” he claimed.
