NEW DELHI — Popular Front of India (PFI) national secretary VP Nasarudheen Elamaram has condemned the arrest and harassment of its supporters by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He called the raid and action against the martial arts master associated with the party as a witch-hunt.

“The NIA claims that it conducted raids on September 17, 2022, at centres of PFI and seized incriminating materials. These raids are part of the ongoing harassment against the members of the organisation in the states. In July, the Telangana Police summoned the martial arts master, Abdul Khader, on the pretext of questioning. Later, he and two other innocents were arrested in a false case,” he said.

In a statement, Elamaram alleged that with a design and under the directives of MHA, the NIA took over the case and turned it into a terror case. Abdul Khader is a martial arts trainer by profession and has been conducting martial arts training for his students across the state. he said he was targeted because he belonged to the Muslim community.

“The transfer of the investigation to the NIA is nothing but a political game of MHA initiated with an eye on the upcoming state assembly elections in Telangana to appease the majoritarian vote bank and this whole episode underpins the agenda of communal polarization,” the statement said.

The statement further said that the NIA is using this false case to target innocent members of the PFI from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The agency is following the modus operandi of fabricating cases and implicating innocent and building a terror narrative that it tried in Bihar to satisfy its political masters.

“NIA’s press release after the raid drama is nothing but the rehash of its usual allegations. The truth is, in Bihar or Telangana, there wasn’t even a minor incident of crime that warranted arrests or federal investigation. The NIA’s baseless claims and sensationalism are solely aimed at creating an atmosphere of terror. People are starting to realise this,” VP Nasarudheen said.

He called it a vicious abuse of power to suppress minority rights movements and that the Popular Front is not an organisation to bend or compromise its principles in the apprehension of these scare tactics.

“Our voice for justice will continue. The organisation will expose the truth before the people of the country,” he asserted.
