Muhammad Muneeb’s achievement stands as a testament to resilience and hard work, especially from a region that has witnessed prolonged instability.
SRINAGAR – In a remarkable display of determination and perseverance, Muhammad Muneeb Bhat from Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir has cleared the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination, securing the All-India 131st rank in his sixth and final attempt.
At 32 years of age, Muneeb’s achievement stands as a testament to resilience and hard work, especially from a region that has witnessed prolonged instability. His success sends a strong message that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir are capable of overcoming every challenge to excel at the national level.
Currently serving as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Police Services, Muneeb’s journey is a powerful story of ambition, struggle, and faith.
Speaking to the media, Muneeb shared insights into his long and often difficult journey. He began his UPSC preparations in 2017, moving to Delhi where he studied at institutions such as Vajiram & Ravi, Hamdard Study Circle, and Jamia Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) between 2017 and 2022.
“Continuous failures did not scare me; they strengthened my resolve. Each attempt brought better performance, and every improvement motivated me to do more. I learned from my mistakes instead of being disheartened by them,” he said.
After five unsuccessful attempts, Muneeb decided to adopt a practical approach by preparing for the State Services exam as a backup plan. “Financial stability was important. I prioritised securing a job first, which is why I appeared for the 2023 State Services Exam. Alhamdulillah, I succeeded and was allotted Kashmir Police Services,” he explained.
While undergoing a year and a half of rigorous training and fulfilling his responsibilities as a police officer, Muneeb continued preparing for the UPSC exam. His relentless effort bore fruit in 2024 when he cleared the preliminary and main exams and travelled back to Delhi to prepare for the interview.
“With new determination and enthusiasm, I appeared for the 2024 examination. By Allah’s grace, when the final results were declared, I secured the 131st rank,” he added.
Muneeb completed his primary to higher secondary education in Anantnag itself. He passed his 10th board exams with 83% marks and secured 64% marks in 12th. Initially, he prepared for both medical and engineering entrance examinations, showcasing his academic versatility.
He credits his success to the unwavering support of his parents. His father, Muhammad Ashraf Bhat, served in the education department and retired as a Zonal Education Officer. His mother, Kausar Parveen, contributed to the field of education as a teacher in a private school.
“My parents’ dedication to education and their constant encouragement laid the foundation for my success. Their sacrifices and prayers kept me going even during the toughest phases of this journey,” Muneeb said.
Muneeb’s success is particularly inspiring for the young generation of Jammu and Kashmir. Coming from a region renowned for its rich cultural heritage but often marred by unrest, his achievement shows that with hard work, resilience, and the right guidance, it is possible to reach the highest echelons of success.
“I hope my story inspires others. No matter how difficult the circumstances, perseverance and sincere effort never go unrewarded,” he said with a smile.
