NEW DELHI – The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNNP) on Tuesday urged President of India Ramnath Kovind to be “bold and wise” enough to intervene in the state of Jammu & Kashmir and issue a directive to the government for immediate release of all politicians detained under PSA including the youth and minors. The party also asked the president to save the academic career of students in the state.

In a letter to the President of India, JKNNP chief Prof Bhim Singh conveyed to the apprised the president about sorry state of the Kashmir, particularly the Valley, Poonch and Doda districts of Jammu province which forced educational institutions to stop functioning since August 4, 2019, a day before the Central government repealed Article 370 of the Constitution, which guaranteed special status to the state, and bifurcated the state into two Union territories .

Singh said that only the presidential intervention at this juncture could save the careers and future of the schoolchildren in Jammu and Kashmir who have not been able to appear for their examinations due to political upheavals in the state. The Students of class X as also higher secondary students could neither prepare for the examinations nor did they take their respective examinations.

The president should issue appropriate instructions to the governor to convene an urgent meeting with the entire leadership of J&K as well as social organisations of the parents to resolve the issue, he added.

Prof Bhim Singh, who has been a votary of revocation of the Article 370, submitted to the president that “the bullets and the police” are no substitute to restoration of confidence of the people of the state. Nor will the prisons and detention centres bring normalcy and peace to the state. The president needs to invite representatives of the political parties of the state as well as those representing the students. This is the only way to save the state from the “highly dangerous situation”.
