AURANGABAD (MAHARASHTRA) — The All India Majlis-e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) formally announced their electoral alliance at a grand public rally here on Tuesday. AIMIM supremo and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and BBM president Prakash Ambedkar addressed the people.
Marking a new dimension in Maharashtra politics, the AIMIM and BBM had last month announced to jointly fight the upcoming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections.
Owaisi’s AIMIM has already made inroads in the Maharashtra Assembly and several civic bodies in the state in the last few years.
AIMIM’s MLAs in Maharashtra – Waris Pathan and Imtiaz Jaleel were also present at the rally.
Reasoning the alliance, Owaisi told the massive gathering: “In India, and particularly in Maharashtra, if there is any section that is most backward and living below the poverty line, whose most youths are unemployed and who is facing the oppression and bias of the government, it is Dalits and Muslims.”
“Several parties have ruled the state, but they did little to improve the lot of the two communities,” he said. He asked the gathering to stand behind Prakash Ambedkar. He promised Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of Dr BR Ambedkar, that AIMIM would stand strongly behind him.
