NEW DELHI — Congress members, joined by other Opposition parties, on Thursday walked out of the Lok Sabha over the political situation in Karnataka and Goa after Speaker Om Birla did not allow to raise the issue during zero hour.

This was the party’s third walkout in as many days.

Congress was joined by members from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (DMK), National Conference (NC) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) among others in the walk out on Thursday.

The House witnessed an uproar as Speaker Om Birla gave no permission to raise the issue before the agitated Congress MPs trooped out of the House.

The Congress on Thursday raised the Goa issue where 10 of the 15 MLAs have defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reducing the Congress strength to just five members, reports IANS.

Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury made a brief speech amid the din, saying “democracy was under threat” in both Karnataka and Goa.

The Congress has accused the BJP of destabilizing the coalition government of Congress and JD-S in Karnataka where as many as 17 MLAs of the two parties have quit the Assembly.
