NEW DELHI – In a significant move aimed at reshaping their media engagement strategy, the Opposition-led INDIA bloc made a pivotal decision during their coordination committee meeting. They have collectively resolved to bar their representatives from attending television shows moderated by specific news anchors. This strategic maneuver is seen as a response to a media landscape captured by the ruling BJP party through mainstream media outlets.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, speaking after the meeting, announced, “The coordination committee authorized the sub-group on media to decide upon the names of the anchors on whose shows none of the INDIA parties will send their representatives.” This decision underscores the bloc’s commitment to redefining their engagement with the media landscape in the country.

The list of news anchors, shared by several member parties of the INDIA coalition, is comprised of 14 prominent names, including Arnab Goswami from Republic Network, Sudhir Chaudhary from Aaj Tak, Amish Devgan from News18 Hindi, Navika Kumar from TimesNow, and Gaurav Sawant from IndiaToday Group, among others.

The decision to boycott specific news anchors’ shows aligns with the INDIA bloc’s overarching goal of influencing public opinion. The Opposition parties have increasingly relied on social media platforms and independent journalists to convey their messages and counter the narrative they believe is being controlled by the BJP through mainstream media outlets.

Addressing the rationale behind the move, AAP MP Raghav Chadha stated, “There are some anchors who conduct provocative debates. We’ll make a list of them, and INDIA alliance partners will stop going to their shows.” This decision reflects a strategic shift in their approach to media engagement.

Beyond the media-related decisions, the coordination committee meeting also addressed other critical issues. Discussions centered on seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the formation of state-level committees to foster collaboration between INDIA parties at the regional level. Notably, the 12 member parties present at the meeting jointly agreed to hold the coalition’s first public meeting in Bhopal, a move that underscores their commitment to consolidating their collective strength and presenting a unified front in the political landscape.
