The party also criticised the Modi government for its ‘complicit silence’ and ‘alignment with Western powers’
NEW DELHI – The Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) New Democracy on Wednesday reacted sharply to the announced ceasefire between Iran and Israel, stating that while hostilities may have temporarily ended, the central issue of justice for Palestinians remains unaddressed. It also criticised the Narendra Modi government for its “complicit silence” on the issue.
US President Donald Trump announced the Iran-Israel ceasefire on Tuesday after US airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites a day earlier. The announcement, endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and accepted by Iran, also included a US decision not to retaliate against Iran’s missile strike on the American Al-Udeid base in Qatar. Iran had reportedly given advance notice of the attack through Qatari authorities, who are believed to have played a mediatory role in brokering the ceasefire.
The CPI (ML) New Democracy criticised the US bombing as a violation of Trump’s own election promise not to start new wars, pointing out that the operation failed to meet any strategic objectives.
The party called the ceasefire a diplomatic retreat, terming it a “misadventure” for both the US and Israel.
“This marks a defeat of the Zionist war-mongering regime led by Netanyahu and a moral victory for the people of Iran,” the party said in a statement issued on Tuesday. It added that the incident has “exposed the limits of Western imperialism” and called the joint US-Israel offensive a “feeble and belated attempt to reassert dominance in a multipolar world.”
The party’s statement also highlighted widespread condemnation of the strikes from regional powers, including Russia, China, and resistance groups such as Yemen’s Houthi-led forces.
The CPI (ML) New Democracy emphasised that the core issue of the Middle East remains unresolved: the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the broader Palestinian struggle for nationhood. Citing data from Palestinian sources, the party said over 55,959 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, with more than 131,000 injured and 14,000 reported missing. These figures do not account for casualties in the West Bank.
“The aggression against Iran was a diversion from Israel’s failure to suppress Palestinian resistance. The Zionist regime, backed by the US, continues its campaign of occupation and genocide,” the statement said.
The party also criticised the government, led by the BJP and RSS, for its “complicit silence” and “alignment with Western powers,” stating that the Modi administration has “placed India on the wrong side of history.”
Calling for mass mobilisation, the CPI (ML) New Democracy urged democratic, progressive, and revolutionary forces in India to intensify their campaign for Palestinian justice.
“There will be no peace in the Middle East until the national rights of Palestinians are recognised and upheld,” the party declared, reaffirming its solidarity with global resistance against “Zionist aggression and imperialist war.”
