PATNA – A major controversy has erupted in Bihar after allegations surfaced that a bodyguard of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has illegally occupied land belonging to a cemetery in Fatuha, near Patna. The incident has sparked outrage, with opposition leaders demanding immediate action and a thorough investigation.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader and MLA Akhtarul Iman strongly condemned the alleged land grab, calling it “a blatant misuse of power.” He said, “This is unacceptable. A high-level inquiry must be conducted, and strict action should be taken against those responsible. The government cannot ignore such violations.”
The issue quickly reached the Bihar Legislative Assembly, where opposition MLAs on Monday raised concerns over the encroachment and broader delays in fencing and protecting graveyards. They pressed the government to conduct surveys and allocate land for new burial grounds.
In response, Planning and Development Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav stated that district officials had been instructed to look into the matter. However, the opposition remained unsatisfied. “The minister’s reply is vague. The government must act swiftly to reclaim the occupied land and ensure justice,” said an agitated opposition member.
Meanwhile, the political atmosphere in Bihar remains charged. AIMIM’s Akhtarul Iman also commented on RJD chief Lalu Yadav’s recent statement endorsing his son, Tejashwi Yadav, as the next chief minister. “Every father wants his son to succeed. But right now, our focus is on protecting public land and upholding the law,” Iman remarked.
Lalu Yadav, during a rally in Motihari, had declared, “No one can stop Tejashwi from becoming Bihar’s next CM.” The remark has further intensified the political rivalry in the state.
With public anger growing and opposition parties uniting over the cemetery issue, the Nitish Kumar-led government faces mounting pressure to address the allegations transparently. Locals in Fatuha have expressed distress, with one resident saying, “Graveyards are sacred spaces. If even these are not safe from encroachment, where will we bury our loved ones?”
Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement, but the case is expected to escalate unless immediate corrective measures are taken forthwith.
