It has been confirmed that the victim was carrying carcasses of dead animals in his pickup van, not the beef as was being touted by his tormentors.

NEW DELHI – The sheer brutality of the scene is enough to turn anyone away in revulsion. Those who have seen the video clip, on the social media, of an unarmed youth being subjected to third degree torture on a mere suspicion of transporting beef responded with outrage and disgust.

The only crime of the victim, driver of a pickup van, for which he has been put through such an ordeal of fire seems to be his being Muslim in an intolerant society. He could be seen quivering in pain while taking blows of belt from his tormentors on his naked torso.

While a group of ruthless men relentlessly beating up a man on the screen is enough to revolt you, the fact that he is being meted out with such a shabby treatment on false charges of carrying beef in his pickup van gives you goosebumps.

The victim identified as Aamir is a resident of Naurangabad in Hathras. It has been confirmed that he was carrying carcasses of dead animals in his pickup van as part of a cleanliness drive.

The police in Mathura arrested four accused in the case after Aamir lodged a complaint with Jait Police station. The arrested persons, Bhola (26), Mangal (32), Bhola (20), and Naubat (35), are said to be villagers.

On the basis of Aamir’s complaint, the police have registered an FIR under IPC sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 427 (mischief causing loss or damage), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 307 (attempt to murder).

In his complaint, Aamir named Vikas Sharma and Balram Thakur, members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). On Sunday around 8 pm, he, along with his companions, Kasim and Barru, was transporting the carcasses to Ayyub bones factory. When they reached Raal village, two persons from Mathurra – Sharma and Thakur – intercepted them by standing in front of Aamir’s van, he said.

“They asked me what was in the van. I told them that it has animal carcasses which I’m transporting to Sikandrarao. Infuriated by the reply, they started assaulting me instantaneously,” said Aamir in his complaint.

Later, he said other people from the village also joined in beating him.

Absolving Aamir of the charges made by the accused, the police said they have not found any trace of cow or beef in Aamir’s van.

“We found that Rameshwar Valmiki, a resident of the Govardhan area in Mathura, has a license from the district panchayat to dispose of animal carcasses. He had sent the vehicle from Mathura to a nearby district. Our initial investigation has not found any cows or beef inside the vehicle. We have registered an FIR based on the complaint filed by the victim,” said Martand Prakash Singh, Superintendent of Police (Mathura).

Sharing the video, a Sweden-based professor and columnist Ashok Swain said in India, cow’s life is more important than that of a Muslim.

In his reaction to the incident, National spokesperson of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Warish Pathan, said this is the new India created by the BJP/RSS.

Radio Jockey Sayema said that this is the situation of Muslims in India.
