Neither Authoritarian Arrogance nor Fomented Hatred Must Be Allowed to Undermine India’s Unity: Manmohan Singh

NEW DELHI – On the occasion of Independence Day, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrote an article flagging India’s main issues and said “neither authoritarian arrogance nor fomented hatred must be allowed to undermine the unity of the Indian people”.

In the article titled “India must protect its hard-won freedoms” published in The Hindu, Singh pointed out the problems related to foreign policies, economy, social division, unemployment and communalism.

“The world’s largest democracy is soon to become the most populous country on earth. Therefore, the celebration of 75 years of Independence brings a special responsibility to set global standards in the protection and the promotion of individual and collective freedoms,” he wrote.
