Several police complaints against Goshamahal legislator have been lodged in multiple parts of Hyderabad, and an FIR was registered against him
HYDERABAD — Muslim scholars and public representatives have urged Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B Shivadhar Reddy to take firm action against BJP MLA T Raja Singh for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
At a recent public rally in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Raja Singh, notorious for making provocative speeches against the Muslim community, reportedly said: “Jinka baap 1400 saal se muh chupa ke ghoom raha hai, unke bache ‘I Love’ ke banner lekar road par ghoom rahein hai” (Whose father has been hiding his face for 1400 years, their children are roaming the streets with ‘I Love Muhammad’ banners).
The comments by the Hindutva leader, who resigned from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in June citing dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership decisions in the state, came amid the ongoing ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign across the country. The campaign has seen several protests and detentions of Muslims, particularly in the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Following the circulation of Singh’s video, police complaints were lodged in multiple parts of Hyderabad, and an FIR was registered against him at the Shah Ali Banda police station.
Raja Singh represents Goshamahal seat in Hyderabad city and is infamous for making provocative statements against the Muslim community. He had earlier been arrested by Hyderabad Police under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act for similar remarks against the Prophet. He was later granted bail by the Telangana High Court.
Community leaders have called upon the Congress-led state government and the police to take swift and decisive action, maintaining that such inflammatory speeches threaten peace and communal harmony in society.
