Muslim Woman Assaulted, Beaten to Death by Mob in Bihar’s Madhubani

Date:

MADHUBANI — A Muslim woman, Roshan Khatoon, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Bihar’s Madhubani district after she had approached the village head seeking help in a local dispute.

Local reports say the attackers tied her to a pole and beat her mercilessly. Witnesses also said that she was abused during the assault.

According to residents, Roshan Khatoon was badly injured in the attack. Her condition later worsened, and she died after the assault.

News of her death spread quickly on Sunday and led to tension in the locality.

Residents said Roshan Khatoon had approached the village head hoping to resolve the dispute peacefully.

A local resident said, “She had gone there to ask for justice. Instead of listening to her complaint, some people began beating her. It was shocking for the entire village.”

Another resident said the attack happened in the presence of several people.

“People saw what was happening, but the beating continued. She was helpless and kept asking them to stop,” the resident said.

Some eyewitnesses and social media posts have claimed that Roshan Khatoon was observing a fast at the time of the incident.

According to these reports, she asked for water during the assault and was allegedly abused.

However, police officials said these claims are still being verified.

A police officer involved in the investigation said, “We have seen some reports about the victim fasting and asking for water. At this stage, we cannot confirm these details. The investigation is continuing, and all aspects are being examined.”

Following the incident, police registered a First Information Report and began an investigation.

Officials said the son of the village head has been detained for questioning.

A police officer said, “We have detained the son of the village head and he is being questioned. We are identifying all the people who were present at the time of the incident. Strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible.”

Police teams have also been deployed in the area to prevent further tension.

Another officer said, “Security has been increased in the village to maintain peace. We are speaking with local residents and collecting statements.”

The death of Roshan Khatoon has caused anger among many residents and social activists, who are demanding strong legal action against those responsible.

A social activist from the district said, “This is a painful incident. A woman went to seek justice and lost her life. The administration must ensure that the guilty are punished.”

Another community representative said the case raises serious concerns about the safety of vulnerable people who approach local authorities for help.

“People go to village leaders hoping to resolve disputes peacefully. What happened to Roshan Khatoon has shocked many families,” he said.

Local residents have called for a fair investigation and punishment for those involved in the attack.

A community elder said, “Roshan Khatoon was a poor woman who went to ask for help. Her death has deeply hurt people here. We want justice for her and safety for all citizens.”

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and further arrests may follow as more evidence is collected.

“We will examine every detail of the case,” an officer said. “No one involved in the incident will be spared under the law.”

The incident has once again raised concerns about mob violence and the safety of minority communities in rural areas, while residents continue to wait for justice in the killing of Roshan Khatoon.
