Muslim Leaders Discuss Unified Stance on Pressing Issues

NEW DELHI – A recent consultative meeting of the leaders of prominent Muslim organisations and noted personalities deliberated on the problems faced by the country and the community. They also discussed possibilities of joint efforts to resolve them.

Those who participated in the meeting, in Kochi city of the southern state of Kerala, included Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulema Hind; Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind; Maulana Yaseen Usmani and Maulana Anisur Rahman Qasmi, Vice Presidents of All India Milli Council; Syed Sanaullah of Jamiat Ahle Hadith; Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, Editor of Milli Gazette; Mujtabi Farooq, Malik Mutasim Khan, Maulana Niaz Ahmed Farooqui, Prof. Salim Engineer, Dr. Qasim Rasool Ilyas, Abdul Salam Puttige, Editor of Kannada Newspaper Warta Bharti; M.A. Siraj, journalist; Kamal Farooqui,  Zuber Gopalani, Misbah Ahmed, Maulana Sayed Pir Tanveer Hashmi and Maulana Shabbir Nadvi, a press statement said. 

Besides discussing the immediate problems faced by the community, the meeting deliberated upon the long-term requirements of community building and development. The main points agreed upon in the meeting were as follows:

1) Joint visits of Muslim and non-Muslim officials in major cities of the country, meetings with ground workers and discussions with common Muslims.

2) Meetings with government officials and discuss with them important issues and demands.

3) Outreach to fellow countrymen and interaction with their organisations and other individuals.  

4) More effective coordination in documentation, research, media etc., and

5) Movement and coordination to form institutions for the development and advancement of the community in education, economy, trade etc.

It was also decided that such meetings would be held continuously to resolve the problems faced by the community and the country with better collective coordinated efforts.
