Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjadullah Khan visited the boy and has demanded immediate action against the attackers
HYDERABAD — In a disturbing reminder of the vulnerability of Muslims in the country, a delivery boy was assaulted by two individuals in the Old City over his religious identity.
Muhammad Nadeem, a resident of Talab Katta in the city, became a victim of religion-based hate attack at Moghalpura on Tuesday (October 7) night. The perpetrators brutally assaulted the victim after determining his religion.
Nadeem was delivering a parcel to Sultan Shahi when he was approached by the unidentified men who inquired about his name and subsequently attacked him. The victim suffered serious injuries and was shifted to Osmania Hospital for treatment. After receiving first aid, Nadeem mustered enough courage to go the Moghalpura police station to file a case, but collapsed due to his injuries and was readmitted to the hospital.
Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjadullah Khan visited the boy and has demanded immediate action against the attackers. The Moghalpura Police have booked a case under 117 (2) r/w 3(5) of BNS.
Tuesday’s incident is not isolated, but rather part of a larger pattern of persecution against Muslims in the country. Muslims have been facing increasing violence and harassment, particularly since the rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power in 2014.
Muslims have been subjected to brutal assaults, lynchings, and killings, often at the hands of Hindu extremist groups. To add to the discomfiture of the community, law enforcement agencies have more often than not found to be targeting Muslims, with reports of custodial torture, extrajudicial killings, and arbitrary arrests. And in several cases, the law enforcement has shown clear apathy towards hate crimes against minorities in the country.
The persecution of Muslims is a serious issue that requires immediate attention and action. The government must take steps to protect the rights and safety of Muslims and ensure that those responsible for violence and harassment are held accountable.
