NEW DELHI — Two premier Muslim organisations of the country —  Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind — have voiced their deep concern over the recent large-scale eruption of hostilities between Israel and the Palestinians. They also called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between the two sides.

President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, said in a statement: “We are deeply concerned over the recent large-scale eruption of hostilities between Israel and Palestine. It must not be forgotten that the current spate of violence is the result of Israeli aggression unleashed by the most right-wing Netanyahu government against the Palestinians.

“The continued Israeli policies of occupation and settlements and the provocative desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque are depriving the region of any serious opportunity for peace and stability.”

The United Nations and the international community must immediately spring to action, de-escalate the situation, and immediately stop the expansion of Jewish settlements, he said.

“We also call on the international community to prevent Israel from using these events as an excuse to launch a disproportionate war against Palestinian civilians in Gaza”, the statement said.

In the same vein, Maulana Mahmood Asa’d Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, condemned the attacks on civilians and the heavy bombardment of residential areas in Gaza.

In a statement, he appealed for an immediate cessation of the war declared by Israel.

Maulana Madani demanded immediate intervention and concrete action from the international community, including the United Nations Security Council and the Arab League, among others.

Maulana Madani stated that Jamiat stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have endured 75 years of Israeli oppression and violence, resulting in their current dire circumstances.

“They find themselves living as prisoners in their own homeland, unwaveringly striving for their homeland’s freedom and the preservation of Masjid Al-Aqsa,” he said.

Furthermore, Maulana Madani voiced his deep concern and disappointment over the biased portrayal of the ongoing war in India’s national media, which unjustly characterises the Palestinian struggle for their rights as “terrorism.”

He highlighted the consistent support for the Palestinian cause by India’s eminent leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Maulana Madani urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to play an influential role in mediating the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He urged the prime minister to leverage his influence to advocate for enduring peace, rooted in principles of justice, and to safeguard the lives of innocent civilians.
