NEW DELHI — The President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, an apex body of Muslim organisations, has requested the Prime Minister to issue an appeal to his supporters to stop economic boycott of Muslims to save India’s image and economy as videos emerged in social media showing that the daily wagers including Muslim vegetable vendors were not allowed entry in some Hindu dominated localities.
The vilification campaign against Tablighi Jamaat, after its Nizamuddin Markaz emerged a Coronavirus hotspot, by a large sections of the media gave rise to the hate crimes against ordinary Muslims ranging from online trolling, hurling religious slurs to economic discrimination against vendors.
Mushawarat president Navaid Hamid showing his concern on these viral videos said India’s image is being dented abroad as twitterati in the Gulf have given a warning of economic boycott of Indian goods.

“To save India’s image and economy ask your fans to stop Economic Boycott of Muslims and treat them with dignity. Please issue standing instructions to law enforcement agencies not to spare hate mongers,” said Hamid in a Tweet.
Navaid Hamid also attached a tweet from a Gulf entrepreneur saying that the persistence of these brutal assaults on Muslims in India may result in boycotts of Indian products and goods by Muslim nations.
However, it is encouraging to note that Prime Minister Modi on Sunday in a stern message to the people who are playing communal angle in the spread of the disease said that the Covid-19 doesn’t see any race, religion and borders and the response against the disease should be with unity and brotherhood.
Prime Minister Office tweeted: “COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or borders before striking. Our response and conduct thereafter should attach primacy to unity and brotherhood. We are in this together.”
Prime Minister, however, stopped short of condemning role of some media outlets for targeting a particular community in the spread of the pandemic which gave rise to hate-Muslim campaign.
