BHOPAL – Hindutva outfits, led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, targeted a mazar (shrine) and a slaughterhouse in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district.demanding their removal. The outfits threatened a fierce movement if the two sites are not removed forthwith.
A news report posted by Hindtuva Watch said VHP and Bajrang Dal members held a protest against the presence of the mazar and the slaughterhouse in Barwani’s Bansemal area and submitted a memorandum to local officials demanding their removal. A bike rally was also held in the area.
“Vishwa Hindu Parishad members organised a protest seeking the removal of a shrine and a slaughterhouse,” said the Hindutva Watch, a research initiative which monitors hate crimes in the country. It also posted a video report of the incident.
According to the report, the Hindutva groups claimed that the presence of the mazar and the slaughterhouse hurt their religious sentiments. They also claimed that the mazar was “illegal” and that remains coming out of the slaughterhouse, dealing with chicken and goats, go into a river after passing through a temple.
“Hence, it hurts our religious sentiments. Besides, a mazar was built by a non-Hindu at a place where we offered funeral rites of our dead. The land belongs to Hindus. Therefore, the mazar should be removed and a temple for Baba Bholenath should be built instead,” demanded a Hindutva leader.
He warned that if the administration won’t take any action on their demands, VHP and Bajrang Dal will launch a fierce movement. “If any untoward incident occurs during the movement, it will be the administration which will be responsible,” threatened the Hindutva leader.
Under the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Hindutva groups in the state have been trying to implement their policies against the minorities. This has led to communal clashes at several places.
In Shajapur town on Monday, communal clashes broke out between two communities when a religious procession passed near a mosque. Members of the Muslim community alleged that their properties were targeted by those who were part of the yatra. Later, stones were pelted from both sides. However, the administration took action only against members of the minority community and demolished their houses.
