ABU DHABI, Nov 30 — Actions that help others find their greatest human potential are one of the most important contributions one can make to better the UAE’s tomorrow, said His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

In an interview with the Arabic language Dira’a Al Watan magazine, Shaikh Mohammed noted that investing in people can only help push the country forward.

He also hailed the achievements of Emirati women and stressed that the UAE will continue to work towards empowering women further to fully play out their role in society.

Shaikh Mohammad said that human resources are the main driving force behind development, its concept, and growth.

He added that human resource development saves a civilization from regression and deterioration. “Maintaining success is harder than achieving it. The status the UAE requires us to continue to work on developing our capabilities, raising our capacity, and diversifying our resources, not just to maintain current successes, but also to move forward into a new phase of development,” said Shaikh Mohammed.

“Throughout our march of development we were very keen on picking up where others have left off. Our experience is strong in this field.  We have to keep working so we can achieve and reach the future we want, we should not lay waiting for the future to come to us and impose circumstances and conditions that determine our way of life. We are the only ones capable of paving our path for the future,” said Shaikh Mohammed.

Shaikh Mohammed emphasized that President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is a role model for benevolence, reminding us of the great contributions that have immortalized the memory of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan who touched the hearts and lives of millions of people around the world.

Shaikh Mohammed pointed out that the UAE’s foreign aid amounted to Dh5.8 billion in 2012, which was used to help people in 137 countries.

“The founding fathers were very well aware of these facts, and that’s why they worked on sending students abroad so they can return to the nation, armed with knowledge and ready to contribute to the process of development,” said Shaikh Mohammed.

“The UAE did not spare any effort in creating an environment that is abundant with the necessary elements to produce capable youth who can be influential in the development process.

“Maintaining success is harder than achieving it. The status the UAE has reached requires us to continue to work on developing our capabilities, raising our capacity, and diversifying our resources, not just to maintain current successes, but also to move forward into a new phase of development,” said Shaikh Mohammed.

Responding to the newspaper’s question about the UAE’s overall progress in all fields, he said, “It is a custom among Emirati people. We keep our promises. If they set their minds to do something, they achieve it thanks to the will of Allah, and their own determination and hard work. My faith in my people is one without bounds. We embark together on the march of development, motivated by our love for this nation. It is a noble goal that can only be achieved by excellence. One cannot achieve these goals by simply sitting back and relaxing. It is important for one to have positive energy, and one must make it a habit to challenge themselves, so when they wake up every morning the one question they can ask is: What will I achieve today?

“The mounting challenges that faced the Emirati people during the period when the federation was being established all faded away thanks to hope, and these challenges completely vanished before the determination of Emiratis. That is why I had complete faith that we can achieve the goals I set out.”

Asked about his message to the youth, he said: “You are the asset of this nation, the foundation for its future. Always work on improving so you can benefit yourself and contribute positively to your society and the status, progress and prosperity of your nation. Always be positive, no matter what the situation is, because positivity is the key to superiority and success. Always strive towards more education and knowledge, and expand your knowledge through reading, research, and take initiatives to make new discoveries.”

He added: “Human health is one of our key priorities, and we are very keen on ensuring that all Emiratis and residents receive the best standard of healthcare services. We have set up a framework to achieve this goal.”–Wam
