NEW DELHI: The Congress party has attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the huge bank scams of Nirva Modi, Mehul Choksi and Jatin Mehta – all three have fled the country. “Modi ji remains on ‘Maun Vrat’ and ‘Jan-Dhan-Gaban Yojna’ rises to Rs 39,000 crore,” said Randeep Singh Surjewala, Media Incharge, Congress while addressing the press here on Thursday.

“‘Art of Leaving’ after defrauding banks is the new culture under BJP Government. A scam a day gets unearthed as Modi ji remains on ‘Maun Vrat.’ Last 12 days saw the bank loot scams of Rs 31,691 crore (NiMo + Choksi Rs 22,606 crore + Rs 5,000 crore, Rotomac – Rs 3,695 crore and Dwarka Das Seth Jewellers – Rs 390 crore),” said the Congress leader.

After Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, jewelers from Palanpur, Gujarat, another Palanpur jeweler Jatin Mehta “has duped the banks, including Punjab National Bank, of Rs 6,712 crore,” alleged Congress

“The three ‘Ms’ i.e. Modi, Mehul and Mehta have followed the same modus operandi – raise money through Letters of Credit, fleece it and fly away to foreign shores. Total scams have now risen to Rs 39,000 crore,” said Congress.

The party also alleged that the Modi government, its agencies Maharashtra government had prior knowledge of the scams.

“Jatin Mehta and his wife conveniently fled from India, gave up Indian citizenship on 2nd June, 2016 and settled down as citizens of International Tax Heaven, St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean with whom Government has no extradition treaty.”
