NEW DELHI — With elections in Uttar Pradesh inching closer every passing day, a video has surfaced on social media and caught the attention of people showing a young woman speaking to a journalist where she articulately and courageously asks all the important questions about the performance of the Yogi Adityanath government.

The viral video clip is part of a news report from Lucknow University by a journalist Tarun Krishna from ‘Uncut’ portal.

The fiery student laying charge on the incumbent government has been identified as Syeda Sadaf Tasneem.

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP government, Tasneem alleges that they did not fulfill the promise of ‘Achhe Din’ or ‘better days’.

She accuses the ruling party of diverting attention from main issues as she asks, “explain, how was the caravan robbed?”

“Yogi ji promised to work on education but the 2019 index from Niti Ayog shows UP as the worst performing state. In health this is the worst performing state.”

The clip moves to a student apparently supporting Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student organisation of the BJP, who asks Tasneem source of data.

“They are not able to see the corpses floating in river Ganga; they are not able to see the problem of women’s security,” she responds.

During the height of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in May, reports emerged from multiple cities along the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh about bodies floating in the river or buried along its banks. The corpses were suspected to be of Covid-19 patients whose final rites could not be performed at crematoriums due to the huge rise in deaths at the time. The horrific images triggered a health scare as well as a political blame game between state governments.

The video further shows Tasneem calling the current dispensation in the state a “blind government’.

She also accuses the supporters of ABVP of supporting patriarchy.

The video clip shared by Mohammed Zubair of Alt News has invited applause with many hailing Tasneem as an ‘articulate and brave girl’.
