LUCKNOW — In a touching and unique event at Era Medical College, a father, Syed Mohammad Junaid Iqbal, witnessed the marriage of his two daughters from his ICU bed. This unusual wedding, carried out according to Muslim customs, saw the medical staff and administration become witnesses to a moment that moved everyone present.

Junaid Iqbal, 51, who has been undergoing treatment for hypertension and other ailments at the medical college on Hardoi Road had already planned the Nikah of his daughters, but his deteriorating health made it impossible for him to leave the hospital. Overwhelmed with worry about not seeing his daughters married, he confided in OT in-charge Dr. Mustahsin.

Moved by his plight, Dr. Mustahsin discussed the situation with the college principal, Dr. MM A Faridi. Recognising the gravity and emotional significance of the request, the doctors decided to allow the wedding to proceed in the ICU, adhering to all necessary protocols.

On Saturday, the grooms arrived at the designated time. With special permission, only the two grooms, the Maulana, and a few close family members were allowed into the ICU. The Maulana performed the Nikah ceremony amidst a setting usually reserved for medical care.

Tears of joy filled Junaid Iqbal’s eyes as he saw his daughters married in front of him. Reflecting on the event, Maulana Zarif shared, “For the first time, I performed a Nikah in the ICU. This moment will be remembered for the rest of my life.” The event has touched hearts across the city, illustrating the deep connections between family, faith, and community support.
