Lucknow Fire: Relief Efforts Intensify as Hundreds Remain Homeless

LUCKNOW — Relief operations are continuing in parts of Lucknow after a major fire earlier this month left hundreds of people homeless, with fresh aid now reaching affected families.

The blaze broke out on April 15 in Vikas Nagar, destroying around 300 homes belonging largely to daily wage workers. Two sisters lost their lives in the incident, while many families were left with nothing and are now living in temporary shelters.

In the aftermath, several organisations and individuals have stepped in to assist those affected. Among them, the Islamic Centre of India has provided 300 water coolers to help residents cope with rising temperatures.

The coolers were dispatched on April 24 as part of ongoing relief efforts. With many families staying in open spaces or makeshift tents, the support is seen as crucial amid intensifying heat conditions.

Speaking about the initiative, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahli said, “We have sent 300 water coolers for the victims. Our effort is to ensure that all possible help reaches them.”

He also appealed for broader support, saying, “We urge both the public and the government to come forward. Relief work is ongoing, but much more assistance is needed.”

Residents say conditions remain difficult, with many families struggling to access food, clean water and basic necessities. Volunteers and aid workers have been distributing ration supplies, but the demand continues to outpace available resources.

“People have lost everything. Even small contributions are making a difference, but more help is urgently needed,” a local volunteer said.

Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the fire, and a detailed assessment of the damage is still underway. In the meantime, affected families remain dependent on relief efforts as they attempt to rebuild their lives.

Officials are expected to review rehabilitation measures, while social organisations say they will continue providing support in the coming days.
