The autobiography’s PDF file and cover appear on websites and platforms despite no approval, prompting inquiry, parliamentary concern, and copyright issues
NEW DELHI – Delhi Police have registered an FIR after the unpublished autobiography of former army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane was found circulating online before official clearance. The book, titled Four Stars of Destiny, was not due for release, yet its content appeared on social media, websites and online news forums, raising serious concerns.
According to the police, claims began surfacing that a pre-print copy and a PDF version of the book were available online. This happened even though mandatory permissions from the concerned authorities had not been granted. Acting on these inputs, the police initiated a preliminary check and then filed a case.
During the inquiry, investigators found what appeared to be a PDF version of Four Stars of Destiny on several websites. The file carried markings suggesting it was prepared by M/s Penguin Random House India Pvt Ltd. In addition, the full cover of the book was displayed on some online marketing and e-commerce platforms, giving the impression that the book was already on sale.
A senior police officer said, “This is not a routine copyright issue. The matter involves unauthorised circulation of unpublished material linked to a former army chief. We are treating it with due seriousness.”
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has taken over the investigation. Officials are examining how the material was leaked, at what level the breach occurred, and which channels were used to spread it. The role of individuals, platforms and organisations is also under scrutiny.
Another officer involved in the probe said, “We are checking digital trails, websites and technical details to identify the source of the leak and the route through which it travelled.”
The issue has also reached Parliament, where some members raised questions about the unauthorised disclosure of content related to the former top military officer. Given the author’s position, the police are also mindful of possible administrative and security implications.
The Delhi Police stated that further legal action will follow once the investigation is complete. “Given the sensitive nature of the case, every aspect is being examined carefully,” an official said.
