NEW DELHI — A lacklustre poll campaigning in the national capital, particularly in the Northeast Delhi parliamentary constituency, has left Delhiites disheartened and anxious.

Despite the feverish election buzz on traditional media and social media platforms, the INDIA bloc, comprising the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, has been notably absent from the campaign trail in Delhi. While Congress has fielded candidates on three seats and Aam Aadmi Party on four, the bloc’s noticeable absence from the electoral fray has raised concerns among the electorate.

Delhi goes to the polls on May 25 in the sixth phase of the general elections.

Notable contenders in Delhi include Manoj Tiwari from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Kanhaiya Kumar of Congress. Some political leaders are reassuring that INDIA bloc’s activities at the grassroots level are underway, with its candidate starting as a favourite.

Anticipation was high for the inauguration of the INDIA bloc’s office in the Northeast Delhi constituency on Sunday, expected to kickstart election activities. However, the delay in such initiatives has left the electorate longing for a more vigorous engagement from the anti-BJP bloc.

There is palpable disappointment among the people over the apparent lack of political agenda and activity from other parties. The delay in presenting a strong candidate from the INDIA bloc may prove disadvantageous in the long run, as time is of the essence in the lead-up to the elections.

Political observers suggest that approximately four lakh Dalit and six lakh Muslim voters in the Northeast Delhi constituency could significantly sway the election outcome. However, the subdued activity from Congress casts uncertainty over the constituency’s political landscape.

While Congress grapples with internal deliberations, the lack of robust election activity risks alienating voters and diverting party resources to other states. Unless swift action is taken to address the concerns of residents and ramp up campaign efforts, the Northeast Delhi constituency risks being sidelined in the broader electoral landscape.
