NEW DELHI – Noted poet and former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas has come under fire for his berating remarks about Taimur following the knife attack on his father, Bollywood actor, Saif Ali Khan at his residence in Mumbai on Thursday. The comments have ignited widespread debate and backlash from various quarters.
Earlier this week, Vishwas criticised Khan and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, for naming their son Taimur. His remarks, perceived as an attack on their personal choices, quickly gained traction on social media, leading to a flurry of reactions.”It will not work if you take popularity from us. We will buy tickets, we will make you a hero, we will make you a heroine and, when you have a child, you will name it after some invader coming from outside. If you keep it, it won’t work,”
He further said that there were so many names, and you could have kept anything. They could have kept Rizwan, Usman, Yunus, or Huzoor, said Vishwas, saying, “You got only one name.”
The poet said that even if you make him (their son) a hero, they will not even let him become a villain.
Days after his remarks, an intruder broke into Khan’s house and stabbed him multiple times causing serious injuries.
People on social media have blamed Vishwas and others for making hate remarks against Taimur and Khan. Such remarks were seen as inspiring and inciting attacks on the Bollywood star.
Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal Jain shames Vishwas for targeting Khan through his remarks.
“It must be incredibly difficult for Saif Ali khan and his family.”
Questions about the safety of the movie stars should be raised. In less than a year we have seen two high profile attacks. People like Kumar Vishwas and the BJP IT cell which kept harassing Kareena Kapoor and his kids should be ashamed of themselves,” she said on X.
Journalist Man Aman Singh said “Robbery is easiest motive to ascribe. Here is a Muslim actor who was constantly on the target of rabid dog whistlers who relentlessly attacked him, his wife and their minor son in social space. How can the hate generated by these right-wing scumbags be discounted while investigating?”.
Bollywood screen writer Darab Farooqi called on journalists to ask Vishwas about his remarks on Taimur.
“Can anybody question Kumar Vishwas during his next interview if he is delighted that Taimur’s father was stabbed? And since we already know he is, how thrilled is he on a scale of 0 to 10?,” said Farooqui.
He further said “Look at this small cute kid. This is Saif Ali Khan’s son. Kumar Vishwas hates this kid because he is named Taimur”.
