LUCKNOW — In a fresh development showing the Friday communal violence in Kasganj town might not have been spontaneous, photo of a living man was circulated as dead on the local social media with ulterior motive. However, the Kasganj police did not allow the mischief mongers to succeed and produced ‘dead’ Rahul Upadhyay before the media here on Monday. The police have also arrested four persons for spreading rumour about his death.
In firing by unknown persons during the communal clashes in Kasganj on the Republic Day, one Chandan Gupta was killed while Naushad had sustained bullet injuries. Members of an unauthorized bike rally taken out by some saffron groups had tried to disrupt a flag-hoisting ceremony on the occasion of Republic Day in a Muslim-dominated locality.
Video of the incident showed the members of the bike rally clashed with the residents who were celebrating the Republic Day on a roundabout after Vir Abdul Hameed. Heated arguments exchanged between the two groups following provocative slogans. The incident took ugly turn and some unknown persons opened fire. Chandan, 22, was killed while Naushad, 37, got bullet passed through his thigh. Later in the night, one Akram Ali was brutally assaulted by a rioting mob in the town.

In three days of communal violence, dozens of shops and vehicles were torched by rioters.
But when the situation was returning to normal, a rumour about Rahul Upadhyay was spread. This shows that some people were indulged in the dirty game of continuing the communal violence.
“Contrary to rumours spread on social media, Rahul Upadhyay is alive. We have arrested four people for spreading false rumours,” Inspector General, Aligarh Range, Sanjeev Gupta said.
Upadhyaya told media persons that he was not even present in the town when the violence broke out. “I had gone to my village and I am hale and hearty,” he said.
