NEW DELHI – A Junior Works Manager at the Kanpur Ordnance Factory has been arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive and classified defence information to a suspected Pakistani intelligence agent via social media.
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested Kumar Vikas, a resident of Kanpur Dehat district, on Wednesday after establishing his links with the Pakistani agent.
The arrest follows the apprehension of Ravindra Kumar, an employee at the Ordnance Factory in Hazratpur, Firozabad, earlier this week for conspiring with the suspected Pakistani agent, Neha Sharma.
Vikas had been in contact with Neha Sharma, who posed as an employee of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). The two reportedly connected on Facebook in January 2025, and Sharma provided Vikas with her WhatsApp number.
Media reports quoted Nilabja Chaudhary, the Additional Director General of Police (ADG) of the ATS, as saying that investigations revealed that Vikas used the Ludo app to communicate with the agent.
Driven by financial incentives, Vikas allegedly shared with Sharma a range of sensitive documents, including details about equipment, ammunition production, employee attendance, machine layouts, and production charts from the Kanpur Ordnance Factory, reports cited the official as saying.
The ATS indicated that this leak of sensitive information posed a severe threat to India’s national security and could compromise the country’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty. Consequently, an FIR has been filed under Section 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/4/5 of the Official Secrets Act.
