NEW DELHI – Mumbai Police on Tuesday filed a case against Bollywood actor Kangna Ranaut following a complaint over her recent provocative Instagram post in which she used derogatory remarks against the Sikh community.

According to NDTV, the complaint was filed by a Mumbai businessman Amarjit Singh Sandhu along with members of two Sikh groups at Suburban Khar police station.

The complaint accuses Ranaut of “intentionally and deliberately” calling the farmers’ protest as a “Khalistani” movement and branding Sikh community as “terrorists”.

She has said in her Instagram post: “Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today… But let’s not forget one woman… The only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jooti ke neeche crush kiya tha (the only woman PM who crushed them under her shoes). No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation… she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life… Lekin desh k tukde nahi hone diye (but she did not let the nation get divided).”

The FIR invokes Section 295-A (hurting religious sentiments) of the IPC as police have opened an investigation against the actor known for her rabid pro-Hindutva rants.

The FIR came after leaders of the Sikh community met Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil and top officials of the Mumbai Police demanding action against Ranaut.
