In a rare display of selflessness, the Muslim driver returns a bag with 18 tolas of gold and cash worth Rs 20 lakh, receiving widespread admiration for his honesty

JODHPUR – In a world often overshadowed by tales of selfishness and greed, a Muslim auto rickshaw driver from Jodhpur in Rajasthan has emerged as a beacon of honesty and integrity. Lal Muhammad Abbasi, a resident of Chamanpura, has set an exemplary standard of humanity by returning a bag containing gold ornaments and cash worth a staggering Rs 20 lakh.

The incident unfolded in Jodhpur’s Sujati Gate area when Lal Muhammad was going about his daily work. As he was driving his auto rickshaw, he noticed a bag lying on the road. Without hesitation, he secured it and placed it safely in his possession. The bag, it was later discovered, contained about 18 tolas of gold jewellery and some cash, valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh.

The bag belonged to Kalu Singh, a resident of Kudi Bhagtasni and a shop worker near Ghanta Ghar. Singh’s wife was preparing to attend a wedding, and he had ordered the jewellery for the occasion. As Singh was riding his motorcycle back home, the bag slipped from his possession near Sujati Gate. Realising the loss, Singh rushed to the nearby police post and filed a report, prompting an immediate search by local authorities.

Meanwhile, Lal Muhammad overheard a conversation at the police post about the missing bag. Realising it was the same one he had found, he wasted no time in heading straight to the police station. In the presence of police officers, Lal Muhammad returned the bag to its rightful owner.

“I saw the bag fall on the road and immediately decided to secure it. I knew someone must be looking for it, but couldn’t find the owner at first,” Lal Muhammad explained. His quick thinking and prompt action have since been hailed as a remarkable act of honesty.

Lal Muhammad’s honesty did not go unnoticed. He was honoured by social organisations and locals. The Tipu Sultan Seva Sansthan and other groups held a ceremony to recognise his selflessness. Lal Muhammad was garlanded, presented with a Rajasthani Safa, and awarded a certificate of appreciation.

Sarfaraz Khan, the president of the organisation, remarked, “Even today, Jodhpur stands as a symbol of Ganga-Jamuni civilisation. It is our duty to honour people like Lal Muhammad, who restore our faith in humanity.”

The police administration also acknowledged Lal Muhammad’s act of integrity. Senior officers noted that such selfless actions are vital in rebuilding trust in society. “In an era where selfishness is often the norm, Lal Muhammad’s actions give us hope that humanity still prevails,” said a senior police official.

Despite his modest means, Lal Muhammad proved that honesty is not dictated by wealth or status. He showed that conscience, character, and integrity outweigh material value. By returning a bag filled with items worth Rs 20 lakh, Lal Muhammad not only made Jodhpur proud but also reminded us that humanity is the most valuable possession one can have.

The incident has left an indelible mark on the people of Jodhpur. It serves as a poignant reminder that in a world often divided by greed, acts of kindness and honesty like that of Lal Muhammad Abbasi are the foundation on which society’s future can be built. “Why should we keep what is not ours?” Lal Muhammad simply put, as he became a symbol of trust and humanity.

Through this remarkable act, Lal Muhammad has not only restored a bag full of valuable jewellery but has also helped restore faith in the goodness of mankind, showing that the true wealth lies in one’s heart and character.
