RANCHI — A communal clash erupted in Dumraon village, Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand on Wednesday morning over the installation of speakers during Shivratri celebrations.
According to Ichak Block Development Officer (BDO) Santosh Kumar, a disagreement over installing loudspeakers by the road escalated into stone-pelting and arson, The Indian Express reported. Authorities said there were no injuries or deaths.
An FIR has been registered, Hazaribagh Additional Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told The Indian Express, adding that three motorcycles and a car were set ablaze.
Meanwhile, Ichak Block BDO said the two communities have been engaged in discussions to “resolve the issue”.
“The situation under control right now. A force of around 150 policemen is camped at the spot. More personnel will be called in if required,” the BDO said.
The BDO said that in the past, the two communities have been at odds over a “minar sort of structure” inside a madrasa. It was when loudspeakers were installed near the madrasa that the situation escalated, officials said.
