NEW DELHI — Javed Akhtar, a prominent name of Bollywood — poet, lyricist and screenwriter- – and former Rajya Sabha member slammed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday over the acquittal of all accused in the Mecca Masjid case.
Akhtar took to Twitter to take on nation’s premier anti-terror investigation agency following its failure to prove charges against the accused, including right-wing activist Swami Aseemanand, in the decade-old blast case.
“Mission accomplished! My congratulations to NIA for their grand success in Mecca Masjid case. Now they have all the time in the world to investigate inter-community marriages!” Akhtar tweeted Wednesday morning.
He was referring to Hadiya case, a Hindu girl from Kerala married to a Muslim man after converting to Islam, which is under the NIA scanner for possible terror angle.
