Jamia Millia Islamia Introduces 30 New Academic Programmes; No Hike in Fees

Date:

Entrance tests to be held in 11 cities as the university simplifies online application system and introduces regional fee relief for foreign students

NEW DELHI — In a major announcement for students planning higher education, Jamia Millia Islamia has opened admissions for the 2026-27 academic session and introduced 30 new programmes without increasing fees in any course.

The university has begun the admission process for undergraduate, postgraduate, advanced diploma, PG diploma, certificate and diploma programmes. Officials said that the application process has been made simpler and more organised this year.

Vice Chancellor Prof Mazhar Asif formally released the prospectus on Friday. He said the university will offer admission to four-year undergraduate programmes through multiple entry modes in line with the National Education Policy 2020.

From the new academic session, 30 new programmes will be offered at different levels. Among them are:

• BA (Hons) Japanese Studies (Self-Finance)

• BA (Hons) German Studies (Self-Finance)

• BA (Hons) Human Resource Management (Self-Finance)

• LLM (Corporate Law – Regular Self-Finance)

• BE Civil Engineering (Evening – Self-Finance)

University officials said the expansion aims to provide more academic choices to students while keeping education affordable.

A senior official said, “Despite launching new programmes, there has been no increase in fees. The university remains committed to accessible education.”

Entrance Exams in 11 Cities

Entrance examinations will be conducted in 11 cities across India. Three new centres — Jaipur, Dehradun and Kishanganj — have been added this year.

Exams will also be held in Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Patna, Kolkata, Srinagar, Calicut and Bhopal.

Relief for Foreign Students

To encourage greater international participation, the university has revised its fee structure for foreign students under general and supernumerary categories. Separate regional fee slabs have been introduced for students from SAARC countries, West Asia, Africa and Latin America for UG, PG and diploma programmes.

An official from the admissions office said, “The aim is to make Jamia more welcoming to students from different regions of the world.”

Online forms for courses requiring an entrance test will be available until 25 March.

For programmes where admission is based on JEE Main, NATA, NEET, NCET and CUET merit, forms can be submitted from 20 February until 10 days after the declaration of results by the respective agencies.

Under the multiple entry mode system, the last date to apply is 10 April.

Simplified Application Process

To reduce confusion, the university has divided the online application system into four separate categories, each with dedicated links. Officials said this will make the process clearer and more transparent for applicants.

Jamia Millia Islamia has also issued an advisory to prospective students. Applicants have been asked to read the prospectus carefully before filling out the form and to apply only through the official JMI admission portal.

A student from Delhi preparing to apply said, “It is good that there is no fee increase. The new courses also give more options for students like us.”

With new programmes, wider exam centres and no rise in fees, the university’s latest move is expected to attract a large number of applicants from across the country and abroad.
