Jamaat Urges Peace, Dialogue, and Reforms Amid Nepal Crisis

True leadership lies not in silencing dissent but in listening with justice and humility – mindful of the responsibility before God and history, said Jamaat chief

NEW DELHI — Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) President Syed Sadatullah Husaini has voiced deep concern over the escalating crisis in Nepal, urging both the government and protestors to resolve the turmoil through peaceful dialogue and reforms.

In a statement, Husaini condemned the violence that has led to the loss of several lives, including young protestors, and extended condolences to bereaved families. “Violence from any side is unacceptable. Both state repression and violent protests only push society further into instability,” he said.

Jamaat chief stressed, “The crisis underlines a much deeper malaise – corruption, nepotism, media censorship, economic distress, caste discrimination and especially rising unemployment and restlessness among the youth. The problem becomes far worse when people’s voices are not heard with empathy and are suppressed through authoritarian means and media controls.

“This is a lesson for all governments across the globe: when corruption, injustice, media censorship, and the suppression of people’s voices are allowed to persist, and when the cries of the youth go unheard, frustration inevitably erupts in dangerous forms, threatening peace and stability everywhere. True leadership lies not in silencing dissent but in listening with justice and humility – mindful of the responsibility before God and history.”

Husaini also cautioned that Nepal’s democratic achievements, born of a long struggle against monarchy, must not be undermined. He warned against any slide toward authoritarianism or majoritarianism, emphasising that the current unrest should be turned into an opportunity for democratic renewal.

“True stability cannot be secured by force but only through justice, accountability, and respect for people’s rights,” Husaini said. He called for urgent reforms, along with a spirit of moral responsibility, to safeguard Nepal’s democracy and ensure peace and prosperity.
