Jamaat Urges India to Play Proactive Role in Reconstruction of Gaza

Ceasefire is a positive and hopeful step after months of devastating violence, says Syed Sadatullah Husaini

NEW DELHI — Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) president Syed Sadatullah Husaini has welcomed the recently announced ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian resistance, calling it a “positive and hopeful step” after months of devastating violence in Gaza. He also urged the Government of India to play proactive role in the reconstruction of Gaza.

In a statement on Sunday, Husaini said the truce must become “the foundation of a comprehensive and just peace — not merely another pause before renewed devastation.” He stressed that peace and justice would remain incomplete without the creation of a “fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state” where people could live with dignity and freedom.

Acknowledging global protests and solidarity with Palestine, Husaini said, “This war on humanity has exposed the hypocrisy of many governments but also revealed the moral strength of ordinary people. Their conscience and compassion have rekindled hope that humanity still breathes.”

He urged that Gaza’s administration should represent the will of its people and not be influenced by foreign powers. “Care must be taken to ensure that, in the name of supervision or stabilisation, unwanted foreign actors are not imposed on the Palestinian people,” he said.

Calling for urgent humanitarian and reconstruction efforts, the JIH president said, “The people of Gaza are in desperate need of food, medicine, housing, and hope. What is needed now is decisive global action to rebuild homes, schools, and hospitals.”

Praising the resilience of the Palestinians, Husaini said their courage and steadfastness were “a moral beacon for the entire world.” He added, “Their unwavering faith in the face of unimaginable suffering is not only a defence of their land but of human conscience itself.”

Husaini urged the Indian government to play a “principled and proactive role” in post-war reconstruction and to reaffirm its historic support for Palestine. “It is time for humanity to stand firmly by the people of Palestine — for freedom, for truth, and for the moral survival of our age,” he added.
