Jamaat Sets Up Waqf Help Desk to Accelerate Registration on Umeed

Our legal struggle against the unjust Waqf Amendment Act will continue, asserts Jamaat chief Sadatullah Husaini

NEW DELHI — Prominent socio-religious organisation, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), on Wednesday launched a Waqf Help Desk (Back-End Support System) to expedite the process of uploading details of Waqf properties and completing their registration on the government’s Umeed portal.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Help Desk at the organisation’s headquarters here, JIH chief Syed Sadatullah Husaini said that the protection of Waqf properties has become a major challenge for the entire Muslim community and must be addressed collectively and with unity.

Husaini explained that the Jamaat’s Waqf Department has been actively working in this field for years — not only at the central level but also across several states where registration work has already begun. “The community has very little time and a huge task ahead to complete the registration of Waqf properties. Therefore, there is a pressing need to establish similar centres across the country to speed up the registration process,” he said.

Referring to the Supreme Court’s interim order, Husaini stressed the importance of uploading all Waqf property documents on the WAMSI (Waqf Asset Management System of India) Portal to ensure registration is completed within the stipulated deadline.

Clarifying that registration does not mean conceding to the government’s recent legislative changes, he asserted, “Alongside registration, our legal struggle against the unjust Waqf Amendment Act will continue. This black law must be challenged through all constitutional means.”

Introducing the Help Desk, Inamur Rahman Khan, the project’s coordinator, said that documenting and uploading Waqf properties on the Umeed Portal has been a complex and time-consuming task. “The Help Desk has been launched to address these challenges and provide complete support for registration,” he said.

Rahman explained that Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has made extensive organisational arrangements to facilitate the registration process. Waqf Cells have been established at the state level to systematise the work. In addition, a permanent helpline has been set up under the supervision of the Central Help Desk and State Waqf Cells, where legal experts, Waqf specialists, and trained field workers will provide real-time guidance and support to those working on the ground.

During the inauguration ceremony, participants were encouraged to build a strong network of volunteers and local monitoring committees. Each area, Husaini suggested, should form Waqf Protection Committees comprising youth, government employees, and community members to monitor encroachments and unauthorised activities on Waqf properties, and to ensure proper documentation and registration.

The event, attended by community leaders, Waqf administrators, and social workers, concluded with the release of detailed guidelines for uploading Waqf properties on the portal.
