NEW DELHI – A delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind visited Uttrakhand’s Joshimath to express solidarity with the residents and offered relief to victims.
Currently, a large number of houses have been destroyed in Joshimath due to subsidence-hit and other reasons. In such a situation, people are going through extreme distress. Hundreds of houses have been marked and vacated by the administration, and are being prepared for demolition.
On behalf of the victims, under the joint banner of Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, demonstrations are being held at the tehsil office with their demands.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expresses solidarity with the victims and the affected people in Joshimath. In press release on Tuesday, the Jamaat said it is committed to providing all possible support in the relief work. The JIH delegation demanded from the government and administration officials to do their utmost in the rehabilitation of the victims on humanitarian grounds. “The authorities should show more seriousness and be more proactive in solving their problems,” it said.
The delegation also met the officials of the Mutt and expressed solidarity and sympathy with them. The people in charge of the Mutt expressed great happiness at this expression of support and solidarity. They said that this is a time when we need to work together through cooperation without showing any discrimination against religion and community.
The delegation also met the Muslim leaders of Joshimath to know their situation and assured them of support. It should be noted that more than 20 houses belonging to Muslims in Joshimath. The delegation also inspected these affected places and houses.
On the return, the delegation will present its observations to the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, in the light of which a plan for implementing further relief work and financial support shall be prepared.
The Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Prof Salim Engineer has said, “The government should be serious in addressing the concerns of the people of Joshimath and rehabilitate them as soon as possible. Offering meager compensation initially and giving the final amount, later on, is akin to ignoring the vulnerability of the victims of the tragedy and should be avoided. It is the responsibility of the government to look after the welfare of its people.”
