NEW DELHI — Condemning the recent Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, the President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Syed Sadatullah Husaini described them as cowardly and inhumane. He noted that the indiscriminate and brutal strikes reportedly claimed the lives of dozens of people, prompting outrage from various quarters. The attacks also martyred Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and other commanders.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, the Jamaat chief emphasised the devastating impact on civilians caught in the crossfire. He expressed heartfelt condolences to the people of Lebanon during this tragic time and extended solidarity to all those resisting Israel’s oppressive and colonial policies in Palestine and other autonomous regions. “Israel’s aggressive actions are not just an attack on a specific group but represent a broader assault on humanity itself,” he stated.
Husaini raised concerns over the methods employed by Israel, noting that the use of bunker-buster bombs in densely populated areas to target Hezbollah’s headquarters constitutes a gross violation of the Geneva Convention. He underscored that such tactics reflect a blatant disregard for international law and humanitarian principles, which are meant to protect civilians in conflict zones.
Husaini also pointed out the alarming implications of the assassination of Nasrallah. He called upon the international community and the United Nations to take decisive and immediate action to mitigate tensions and prevent further violence.
He urged the global community to unite against such acts of aggression and work towards establishing lasting peace and justice in the region.
Husaini concluded his statement by offering tribute and prayers for the martyrs and condolences to their families.
