MUMBAI – A district-level workshop in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon on Wednesday focused on equipping trustees and guardians of Waqf properties with knowledge about legal complexities and strategies for safeguarding their institutions from external challenges.

The workshop featured guidance from Jalgaon District Waqf Board Officer Atif Ahmed Matoli and other local and international legal experts associated with the Aurangabad Waqf Board.

Abdul Karim Salar, the organiser, said the workshop aimed to “protect the legacies of our elders and safeguard the institutions built on Waqf lands from potential threats.”

In the press briefing, Salar highlighted the pressing need for such initiatives. “Given the current environment where fascist forces, alongside the government, appear hostile toward Waqf properties, it is crucial to ensure our documentation is accurate and robust,” he stated.

Salar called on trustees and caretakers of mosques, madrasas, dargahs, khanqahs, and other Waqf institutions across Jalgaon district to benefit from the deliberation at the workshop.

The workshop featured legal insights from advocates including Najam Deshmukh, Aqeel, Khalid, and Ayub Khan. These experts addressed various issues ranging from proper documentation to navigating legal disputes involving Waqf properties.

The Jalgaon unit of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (Arshad Madani faction) played a significant role in organising the event. Their involvement underscores the importance of community collaboration in addressing legal challenges facing Waqf institutions.

The workshop represented a proactive step in ensuring that trustees are well-equipped to manage their responsibilities and protect Waqf assets, ensuring their continued service to the community amidst increasing legal and societal challenges.
