Israeli Forces Kill 36 Palestinians in Gaza, Including Aid Seekers and Elderly Woman in Jerusalem

Hundreds more wounded in fresh Israeli attacks across Gaza, according to medical sources

ISTANBUL — At least 36 Palestinians, including many seeking food aid, were killed and hundreds more wounded in fresh Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, medical sources said.

One of the sources told Anadolu that 12 people lost their lives and several others were injured in a strike in the Shejaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City.

Eight more people were killed by Israeli gunfire while attempting to obtain humanitarian aid in the Nitzarim area in central Gaza, the official news agency Wafa said, citing medical sources.

Rescue teams recovered the bodies of three Palestinians and rescued five others from the rubble of two houses in Jabalia Al-Nazla in northern Gaza, following an Israeli airstrike. Some individuals remain missing under the rubble.

Ten Palestinians were also killed and others injured in another Israeli attack on two houses in Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

Rescue teams recovered the body of a young Palestinian from the rubble in the town of Abasan in eastern Khan Younis in southern Gaza, a medical source said.

Two more Palestinians were killed, and others injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a gathering of people near the Omari Mosque in Jabalia Al-Balad, northern Gaza.

An elderly Palestinian woman was shot dead early on Wednesday by Israeli soldiers in Shuafat refugee camp, northern occupied East Jerusalem, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

“The 66-year-old woman, Zahia Jawda Al-Obaidi, was killed after being shot in the head by (Israeli) occupation soldiers during the storming of the Shuafat camp,” the Jerusalem Governorate said in a statement.

“Israeli intelligence summoned the husband of the deceased, Al-Obaidi, for questioning,” added the governorate.

Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing over 56,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

The International Court of Justice declared last July that Israel’s longstanding occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal, and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. — AA
