ON TUESDAY, Israeli forces abducted 17-year-old Ahed Tamimi over a video gone viral online, showing her slapping an Israeli soldier during a raid on her West Bank Nabi Saleh village.
An Israeli statement said “(o)ur forces and border police…arrested a female Palestinian resident of Nabi Saleh on suspicion of attacking an (IDF) officer and soldier.”
She “took part in violent disturbances last Friday.” Tamimi is a well-known Palestinian activist youth, courageously confronting regular repressive raids by Israeli forces on her village.
Former prisoner of conscience Bassem Tamimi posted a Facebook comment, saying Israeli forces “raid(ed) my home and arrested my daughter Ahed Tamimi after the Israeli media attack(ed) her, after she (stopped) the soldier in front of our house when he shot (14-year-old) Muhammad Tamimi, (Ahed’s cousin in) his head,” adding:
They “beat my wife and children,” ransacked (the) house,” seizing their phones, cameras and computers. Muhammad Tamimi remains in a medically-induced coma.
Ahed’s mother, Nariman Tamimi, was also arrested after seeking information about her abducted daughter. They’re detained at an unknown location.

The Tamimi family is well-known for actively confronting Israeli occupation harshness.
In 2015, family members confronted Israeli soldiers violently trying to arrest 11-year-old Muhammad Tamimi, his left arm in a cast at the time, freeing him from their grasp – the family gaining international prominence from the incident.
At the time, NBC News called Ahed a “poster child” of Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation.
Harassment followed her prominence. She’s been repeatedly targeted by Israeli viciousness, calling her a “terrorist,” threatening to kill her.
She began filming violence committed by Israeli forces when aged-10. Now a prominent target, she’s been arrested and detained before.
According to local sources on Tuesday, Israeli soldiers invaded their village pre-dawn. Arriving in armored vehicles, they broke into the Tamimi home violently – the same tactic repeated virtually daily in other Palestinian towns and villages, terrorizing their residents, most often making lawless arrests.
Nabi Saleh village is well-known for nonviolently resisting Israeli occupation harshness, along with its Annexation (Apartheid) Wall.
For over a decade, residents have held weekly Friday protests, joined by Israeli Jews and international human rights activists.
In response to the abduction of Ahed and her mother, the Samidoun prisoner support group denounced what happened, saying:
“There are hundreds of Palestinian children jailed by Israel and frequently subject to beatings, abuse, and interrogations without parents or lawyers present in violation of the law. We urge people of conscience around the world to take action to demand freedom for Ahed and her fellow detained and jailed Palestinian children in occupation detention centers, interrogation centers and prisons – and for Nariman Tamimi and all detained and imprisoned Palestinians.”
Ahed was scheduled to be part of a No Child Behind Bars/Living Resistance speaking tour in 18 US cities, beginning January 15 this year, continuing until February 9.
The State Department denied her visa permission to come, part of Washington’s one-sided support for Israel, partnering in its high crimes.
