RABAT, MOROCCO — The largest international Islamic organization that specialises in the fields of education, science and culture, Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) strongly condemned the deadly bomb attacks in Sri Lanka.

Headquartered in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, the ISESCO said in a statement on Sunday that this heinous act is a crime against humanity and an ugly face of hatred and extremism, Xinhua news agency reported.

A series of bomb explosions at Churches in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo on April 21 rocked the country claiming more than 290 lives and injuring more than 500.

The attacks “hamper international efforts to promote the values of peace, coexistence and respect among followers of religions,” ISESCO added.

Police spokesperson Ruwan Gunasekara said so far 26 suspects have been arrested from across the country and search operations were ongoing to nab more suspects.

He said security would remain beefed up across the island nation and urged people to avoid gathering in public places.
